Traumatic Brain Injury & Sleep Disorders
Dr. Jacobs is a consultant for legal cases in which a traumatic brain injury (TBI) causes sleep symptoms. Sleep symptoms are common with mild TBI, occurring in nearly half of individuals. Sleep disturbances after mTBI can include daytime sleepiness, post- traumatic narcolepsy, insomnia and/or sleep apnea.
With a legal referral, evaluation starts with review of medical information and comprehensive consultation.
Sleep testing is typically required to assess for identifiable sleep conditions that may require specific therapy. Dr. Jacobs does not do evaluations directly for Labor and Industry cases.
Many of the symptoms resulting from TBI can be improved with treatments, from behavioral modifications to medications to devices. Dr. Jacobs can help manage these symptoms.
